After getting the rundown on the east side of Los Angeles last week, we called our friend Rena Johnson in Brooklyn for our fourth edition. Rena (pronounced lay·na) is currently a media designer for Secretly Group, working on projects for Mitski, Bright Eyes, Angel Olsen and more. Be sure to follow her here.
Emailing for fun
Emailing is back and hotter than ever!! I like it because it’s more convenient than letter writing but feels more intentional and thoughtful than texting. My boyfriend and I emailed for four months before going on our first date and now we’re in love :)
A small used bookstore and cafe/bar in Brooklyn. They have a great, eclectic selection of books and play good music. Super cute and cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and read!
I love reading famous people’s diaries but find myself especially mesmerized by Anaïs Nin’s work. Her diaries are so full of wisdom and heart, and offer a rare glimpse into the life of artists in 1940s Paris and NYC. People criticize it for being too self-indulgent but it is, after all, a diary. I keep it by my bedside and pick it up frequently for inspiration.
Soo chewy, delicious, and tangy 💚 I’m obsessed with any kind of lemon candy and these feel kind of healthy because of the ginger, even though they’re definitely not.
Mitski’s ‘The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We’
I’ve been revisiting this album a lot because she’s playing shows in New York this week, but am still so stunned by how beautiful and dynamic this record is. I was lucky enough to make the lyric videos for all the tracks on the album and feel so grateful for the opportunity to work with such an incredible artist.
Texting your friends a poem
